Wakatu
aroma · New Zealand
New Zealand aroma hop descended from Hallertau Mittelfrüh, formerly known as Hallertau Aroma. Bred at the New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research. Carries the noble German base character alongside distinctive NZ citrus and floral notes — lime, citrus blossom, and fresh floral with a clean, elegant finish. Well suited to lagers, pale ales, and NZ-style ales.

About
A New Zealand triploid with two-thirds Hallertau Mittelfrüh lineage, open-pollinated by a NZ-derived male. Released in 1988 as 'NZ Hallertau Aroma' and officially renamed Wakatu (brand 77-05) in 2011. It delivers a heady mix of floral and fresh citrus character that selectors describe as freshly-zested lime peel, over a noble base. A true dual-purpose variety with good aroma shelf-stability in both keg and small pack.
