About This Beer
This brew was Owen’s second take on a Panhead APA clone kit originally purchased from Home Brew West in Henderson. Version 2 made two key changes: Vienna malt in place of Munich, and a complete switch from American hops to full-flavoured Nelson varieties — Nectaron, Kohatu, and Superdelic, each at 100g total.
The hop schedule puts emphasis firmly on late additions. Only 10g of Nectaron goes in at 60 minutes; the remaining 270g of hops are split across the 30-minute boil, whirlpool at 80°C, and a Day 5 dry hop. Safale US-05, fermented at 19.5°C for 5 days, then ramped to 22°C after dry hopping, before gradual cooling to 5°C over the final week.
OG 1.059, FG 1.016, ABV 5.9%. 23 litres.
