Tasting notes
2024-08-10
A Nectaron-focused pale ale brewed with Sam and Alex — a straightforward recipe designed to showcase what Nectaron delivers in a clean pale ale format. Simple three-malt grist, one hop variety, US-05.
Grain Bill
Gladfield American Ale (70.0%) anchors the base; Vienna (20.0%) adds malt warmth and roundness; Toffee Malt (10.0%) contributes caramel depth and colour. Total: 6.0 kg.
Hops
All Nectaron — 150 g total:
- Boil: 15 g at 60 min, 10 g at 30 min, 20 g at 10 min
- Whirlpool: 30 g at 80°C, 10-minute hold
- Dry hop: 75 g at day 7
Nectaron’s pineapple, passionfruit, and peach character is the entire hop story here. At 150 g into 24 L it’s a generous showcase charge.
Fermentation
Safale US-05 at 18°C under light pressure (4 psi). Temperature raised to 20°C after the day 7 dry hop addition, with the spunding valve closed to capture CO₂. Pressure built to mid-20 psi before cooling and counter-pressure transfer to the All Rounder.
Packaging & Tasting
Mixed packaging on day 15, carbonated to 2.4 vol CO₂. Tasted at packaging: strong Nectaron aroma, good body and foam, balanced sweetness and bitterness. An uncomplicated batch that delivered exactly what Nectaron promises.
