About This Beer
Summer Haze V carries forward the same Hazy Saison framework Owen has returned to across this sub-series: a wheat-forward grain bill with Pilsner, Vienna, and Light Crystal, flavoured with ginger and honey, and fermented with a Saison yeast for a dry, refreshing finish.
This version switches from Belle Saison to Safale BE-134 as the yeast, and adds Citra and Taiheke into the hop schedule for the first time in the Summer Haze series. Citra goes in at 60 minutes and at the whirlpool (rapid-cooled to 80°C); Taiheke at 15 minutes and as a Day 5 dry hop. 40g ground ginger and 300g honey at 15 minutes add the characteristic summer ale character.
Fermented at 23°C for 14 days — BE-134 drove the FG down to 1.003, giving a very dry and refreshing result. 22.5 litres bottled with 140g dextrose on 29 November 2023.
OG 1.048, FG 1.003, ABV 5.9%.
