About This Beer
A variation on Matt’s Rice Ale, swapping flaked rice for flaked maize and Pomona for BRY-97. The base is Gladfield Light Lager Malt — clean, light, and thin — with 1.3kg of flaked maize adding a creamy smoothness and subtle grain sweetness. Vienna rounds out the body.
Krush handles the hot side — 15g at 60 minutes for bittering, 35g at 10 minutes for late-boil aroma. Nelson Sauvin takes over from the whirlpool: 35g in a 20-minute stand at under 80°C, then 65g dry-hopped on Day 4.
Fermented at 18.5°C, raised to 22°C until Day 11, then reduced to 8°C. Bottled 31 July 2025, final volume 19 litres.
Fruity nose, soft mouthfeel from the maize, and a clear Sauvignon Blanc quality from the late Nelson Sauvin additions. Less assertive bitterness than the Golden Weka or Smashatron batches — the lower total hop quantity keeps it sessionable.
