Weyermann Carafa Special Type 2
roasted malt · Weyermann · Germany
A dehusked (debittered) dark roasted malt from Weyermann. Removing the husk before roasting strips out the harsh, astringent, bitter notes of ordinary black malt, leaving smooth mild coffee and chocolate character. Used in tiny amounts (often under 2%) purely to deepen colour — turning a beer amber, red, or black — without adding roast bitterness. The go-to colour adjustment malt for Schwarzbier, Dunkel, and amber lagers.

About
A dehusked (debittered) dark roasted malt from Weyermann's Carafa Special range. Removing the husk before roasting strips out the harsh, astringent bitterness of ordinary black malt, leaving a smooth, mild coffee-and-chocolate character. It is used in tiny amounts purely to deepen colour — taking a beer to amber, red or black — without adding roast bitterness, which makes it the go-to colour-adjustment malt for Schwarzbier, Dunkel and amber lagers.
