Gladfield Golden Oat
adjunct · Gladfield Malt · New Zealand
Gladfield's lightly kilned oat malt. Adds a subtle toasty oat character, soft body, and a warm golden hue. Distinct from Big O in its slightly higher colour and gentle kilning-derived flavour. Used to add complexity to hazies and pale ales without heavy grain character.

About
Gladfield's newest oat malt, made from their Big O grain: the oats are germinated like Big O, then roasted in small batches and crystallised in their own husk, much like a crystal malt. The result is a creamy texture, better lautering from the retained husk, and a warm orange hue. It adds oat complexity and colour to hazies and pale ales without heavy grain or roast character.

Usage
Crystallised, so it has no diastatic power — mash with a base malt. Use up to ~20% for creamy texture and a golden-orange colour lift; the retained husk aids run-off. Effective in hazy IPAs, golden and pale ales, and oatmeal stouts.
